BYD Unveils Latest Model with Advanced PHEV Technology in China

BYD has recently unveiled the latest addition to their range, the BYD Seal 06 DM-i, in Xian, China. This launch event also featured the debut of the fifth generation DM system that powers the car. In addition, the Qin L DM-i, the sister car of the Seal 06, was also introduced at the same event, sharing the same platform. The Seal 06 series consists of five models, with prices ranging from 99,800 to 139,800 yuan (approximately 13,750 – 19,300 USD).

Despite sharing the platform with the Qin L, the Seal 06 adopts the design language of the BYD Ocean series, drawing inspiration from the original Seal that was first introduced in 2022. The Seal 06 boasts dimensions of 4830, 1875, and 1495 mm (l/w/h) with a wheelbase of 2790 mm, featuring a mostly closed front with a low grille, semi-hidden door handles, and a through taillight cluster on the trunk lid. The car is equipped with MacPherson suspension at the front and new E-type four-link independent suspension at the rear.

Internally, the Seal 06 features the distinctive Ocean series appearance, featuring a rotating 15.6-inch central infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument screen. Standard features include 6 airbags, ETC, mobile phone NFC key, automatic air conditioning, one-touch window control for the driver’s side window, tire pressure monitoring system, and a minimum of six speakers. Higher spec models offer additional features such as a panoramic sunroof, DiPilot L2 driving assistance system, electric adjustable seat for the front passenger, dashcam, 18-inch wheels, 8-speaker sound system, and seat heating and ventilation.

The Seal 06 DM-i is powered by the new fifth generation DM system, a plug-in hybrid system built around a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum power of 74 kW and 126 Nm torque. Lower spec versions boast an 80 km all-electric range and use a 10.08 kWh battery and a 120 kW electric motor with 210 Nm torque, while higher spec versions are equipped with a 15.874 kWh battery, providing a 120 kWh all-electric range, and a more powerful 160 kW EHS160 motor with 260 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is rated at 2.9 l/100 km in NEDC mode and 10.7 kWh/100 km in CLTC mode.

The introduction of the BYD Seal 06 DM-i represents a significant milestone for the company, demonstrating their dedication to innovation and environmental sustainability. As BYD continues to push the boundaries of automotive technology, the new fifth generation DM system and advanced PHEV technology are set to redefine the driving experience.
