How Soldiers Are Trained to Counter Drone Threats

3 min read

In view of the escalating incidence of drone attacks in combat zones, it is imperative for military personnel to be adequately prepared for this reality. Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Fort Sill to gain insight into the training that soldiers undergo to counter drone threats.

During my visit, I witnessed the comprehensive training that Fort Sill soldiers undergo to effectively respond to potential drone attacks. Although I did not personally engage in the shooting down of a balloon carried by a drone, I observed the use of technology that enables soldiers to neutralize drone threats.

One of the key technologies utilized is the Dronebuster, which effectively immobilizes drones within its range by disrupting the control of the target drone. It was impressive to witness the soldiers’ operation of the technology, employing a combination of the Dronebuster and the Smart Shooter to engage and neutralize potential threats.

Soldiers undergoing training at Fort Sill are also equipped with handheld equipment designed for short-distance engagement of drones. This practical training is complemented by theoretical instruction, ensuring that soldiers are proficient in the use of these devices.

It is important to acknowledge that the adaptation to new technology can be challenging for soldiers, as it necessitates the retraining of their muscle memory and awareness to effectively operate these sophisticated systems. Students are rigorously tested on their ability to detect and neutralize drone threats, a critical aspect of their training.

The significance of this training cannot be overstated, given the increasing threat posed by drones in modern warfare. As drones continue to evolve and become more accessible, it is essential for military personnel to proactively counter this threat rather than merely react to it.

The use of drones for reconnaissance, payload delivery, and intelligence gathering poses a significant security risk. Therefore, the training provided at Fort Sill is not only relevant but also indispensable for the safety and security of military personnel.

In conclusion, the training and technology utilized at Fort Sill play a pivotal role in equipping soldiers with the skills and knowledge necessary to counter evolving drone threats. As the threat posed by drones continues to evolve, it is commendable to see the military taking proactive measures to mitigate this risk. The importance of this mission cannot be underestimated, and it is evident that the training provided at Fort Sill will be crucial in ensuring the safety of military personnel in the future.
