The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) is pleased to announce its recent induction into the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates. With a membership of over 11,000, ACLM is now well positioned to directly contribute to the development of healthcare policies and priorities that will advance lifestyle medicine and impact the future delivery of healthcare.

The AMA House of Delegates serves as the principal policy-making body responsible for establishing healthcare policies and priorities that reflect the needs of patients and physicians across the nation. This significant milestone will enable ACLM to amplify the voices of its members in addressing the most pressing challenges facing health care today.

Cate Collings, MD, MS, FACC, DipABLM, FACLM, the Past President of ACLM, expressed excitement about this achievement, emphasizing that it represents a major milestone not only for the organization, but also for the rapidly growing field of lifestyle medicine. Dr. Collings will serve as ACLM’s official delegate and looks forward to working in collaboration with peers to advance lifestyle medicine principles for the betterment of patient care.

Prior to admission to the House of Delegates, an organization must undergo a rigorous eligibility process, including three-year membership in the AMA Specialty and Service Society Caucus, among other criteria. ACLM was established in 2004 by a group of forward-thinking physicians who recognized the need for a medical professional home for lifestyle medicine.

ACLM President and Harvard Medical School Associate Professor, Part Time, Beth Frates, MD, FACLM, DipABLM, believes that the organization’s induction into the AMA House of Delegates is another pivotal moment in advancing lifestyle medicine. Dr. Frates is overjoyed at ACLM’s remarkable progress and expresses gratitude to the passionate healthcare professionals who have worked hard to reach this recognition by the AMA.

As a transformation catalyst and a force for change, ACLM is dedicated to advancing the field of lifestyle medicine as the foundation of a redesigned, value-based, and equitable healthcare delivery system. By identifying and eradicating the root cause of chronic disease, ACLM aims to add years to lives and life to years while reining in the unsustainable trajectory of healthcare spending.

With ACLM’s induction into the AMA House of Delegates, the field of lifestyle medicine is taking a significant step forward. This achievement not only reflects the organization’s commitment to transforming healthcare but also highlights the growing recognition of lifestyle medicine as a vital component of patient care.
