The most recent board meeting of the Health & Fitness Association resulted in the election of Chris Smith as the new chair, Luke Carlson as the vice chair, and Al Noshirvani as the treasurer, signifying a notable shift in the association’s leadership.
Chris Smith, a longstanding member of the Health & Fitness Association board for the past four years and serving as vice chair in the previous year, has ascended to the role of chair. With a background as the president and CEO of Fitness World Canada since 2020, Smith brings a wealth of experience in the fitness industry. His journey began 25 years ago as a personal trainer, and he has since held key leadership roles at major fitness companies before ultimately becoming the owner and CEO of Fitness World Canada. Smith is also involved in media through All Things Fitness and Wellness and is the founder and CEO of the British Columbia Personal Training Institute.
Liz Clark, the president & CEO of the Health & Fitness Association, expressed her confidence in Smith’s ability to guide the association through its ongoing transformation and focus on strategic pillars, including advocacy, education, and research. She lauded Smith’s attention to detail and strategic vision, highlighting his potential to elevate member services and operational performance.
Luke Carlson, the founder and CEO of Discover Strength, a fitness company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has assumed the position of vice chair. Carlson is a respected figure in the industry and has made significant contributions through speaking engagements, publications, and expertise in resistance training.
Completing the trio of new leaders is Al Noshirvani, who takes on the role of treasurer. With a diverse background in fitness club management, management consulting, and financial advisory, Noshirvani brings a unique set of skills to further strengthen the association’s leadership team. His experience in M&A, venture capital, and consulting, as well as his involvement in various organizations, make him a valuable addition to the board.
The Health & Fitness Association is optimistic about the contributions that Smith, Carlson, and Noshirvani will make to further the association’s mission and enhance its services.
