Boosting Financial Management Skills in the Nigerian Army Ministry of Defence

The Nigerian Army Finance Corps has intensified its efforts to enhance the financial management and work ethic skills of senior staff within the Ministry of Defence.

A recent three-day financial management training organized by the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration at Arakan Barracks in Lagos State received commendation from the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Maj. Gen. Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, who expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of the senior MOD staff. The training aimed to promote a closer working relationship between military and civilian personnel within the Ministry of Defence in line with the objectives of the Chief of Army Staff and the reinforcement of national security infrastructure.

Brig. Gen. Abubakar Maikan, Commander of the Command Finance Office, emphasized the significance of the training in enhancing the proficiency of senior MOD staff in financial management at the strategic level. The goal is to equip them with the necessary skills to effectively address challenges associated with financial management and office administration, promoting greater collaboration with sister services, para-military and security agencies, and other pertinent stakeholders.

The training event was designed to cultivate the capabilities of senior officers, instilling analytical skills and flexibility to carry out financial, administrative, and military duties in alignment with the Ministry of Defence’s strategic objectives. In line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, the mission is to shape a proactive and proficient corps capable of delivering financial services to support the Nigerian Army in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment. This initiative also aims to bolster transparency in financial transactions, improve compliance with regulations, and mitigate wasteful expenditure in defence operations.

The comprehensive impact of the training, which covered various topics in the realm of public finances and nurturing healthy workplace relationships, was highlighted during the closing ceremony. This has further solidified the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration as a pivotal training institution, having produced numerous graduates with National Diploma and Higher National Diploma qualifications.
