The Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury is set to undergo a significant upgrade, as announced by Wiltshire Council. This will include a complete replacement of the gym fitness equipment and the trial re-opening of the health suite in September, aimed at enhancing the services and facilities offered to customers.
In addition to the replacement of the gym equipment, the fitness suite will undergo floor replacement, gym area redecoration, and the introduction of a new virtual studio platform in both the main studio and cycle studio. The works are scheduled to take place in the coming months, with the aim of providing a much-improved fitness offer for members.
The main studio will undergo additional cabling and networking for the virtual studio from June 25 for four days, followed by works in the cycle studio from July 1 for four days. Further installation of hardware required for virtual classes in both studios will be completed in July, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed.
To facilitate the renovation, the gym will be temporarily closed from August 12, with a temporary gym offering in the sports hall from August 13 for the duration of the fitness suite works. The council assures that they will minimize disruption to all centre users, although some fitness classes may be affected during this period.
The council has also announced the planned re-opening of the Five Rivers health suite on a trial basis following a period of due diligence. This decision comes after the health suite facilities in seven of the council’s leisure centres were temporarily closed due to high running costs and the impact on the council’s carbon footprint amidst soaring energy costs. The council is keen on assessing the effectiveness and usage of the health suite upon its re-opening to ensure its viability and sustainability.
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, cabinet member for leisure, expressed his pleasure in confirming the improvement works at the leisure centre, emphasizing the council’s commitment to providing quality services in accessible facilities to help increase activity levels and improve health for the people of Wiltshire. He also reiterated the council’s efforts to offer the health suite facilities to customers at good value in a sustainable manner.
The re-opening of the health suite on a trial basis in September is a significant step towards achieving the council’s goal of providing a much-improved fitness offer for all members. The council will soon provide more details on the exact date, opening hours, and accessibility of the health suite, as they look forward to delivering these projects for the benefit of the community.
