Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Enters Collaboration with GIB EnergyX Slovakia for LFP Technology – A Forward Outlook for Mobility

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M), has recently concluded a technical licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia s.r.o., a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd. This agreement grants ARACT access to license Gotion’s high-quality LFP technology for lithium-ion cells.

The licensing agreement encompasses various aspects, including access to cell technology IP, assistance in establishing Gigafactory facilities with state-of-the-art process technologies, integration with Gotion’s global supply chain for essential battery materials, and customer technical support for solution deployment.

Through this technology transfer and service support, Amara Raja aims to enhance its efforts in realizing its Gigafactory manufacturing capacities and the advanced research centre, ‘ePositive Energy Labs’. This move is part of their larger goal to position India at the forefront of R&D capabilities in this industry. In fact, the company has already announced a substantial investment of INR 9,500 crore for the establishment of the Amara Raja Giga Corridor in Telangana. The objective is to ensure that its products remain competitive by continually enhancing cell performance and process efficiencies.

Both Amara Raja and Gotion hold stakes and board positions at InoBat, a lithium battery technology company based in Slovakia, which focuses on advanced applications including electric aviation. Furthermore, GIB, a joint venture between Gotion High-Tech and InoBat, has recently entered into an investment agreement with the Slovakian government to build the first LFP battery Gigafactory in the country.

Gotion High-Tech boasts an impressive portfolio, with eight global R&D centres, 8,000 patented technologies, 20 major manufacturing locations across the globe, and a capacity layout projected to reach 300 GWh by 2025.

Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Director of ARE&M, expressed, “We have dedicated significant resources in recent years to comprehend the evolving global new energy landscape and made the strategic decision to be part of the growing lithium battery ecosystem through our investment in InoBat. Our collaboration with GIB, facilitated by their ‘Global C2C Alliance’, reinforces our technology and supply security, propelling our efforts to establish the Amara Raja Giga Corridor.”

Meanwhile, Jayadev Galla, Chairman & Managing Director of ARE&M, stated, “Our foray into the new energy domain signals the commencement of Amara Raja 3.0. We are confident that India will emerge as one of the fastest-growing EV markets, and with Gotion’s proven technology combined with our expertise, we believe it will be a winning combination. We have cultivated strong relationships with customers across all battery applications who have entrusted Amara Raja to deliver top-notch solutions.”

Steven Cai, Chairman of GIB EnergyX and Director of Gotion High-Tech Co, also shared his thoughts, saying, “India presents an exciting market with substantial growth potential. Our partnership will offer innovative solutions across the New Energy value chain, greatly benefitting Indian customers in their energy transition journey.”

The collaboration between ARACT and GIB EnergyX Slovakia marks a significant step towards advancing environmentally-friendly, advanced energy solutions – a promising step towards a greener, more sustainable future.
