Amara Raja Partners with Gotion-InoBat-Batteries to License LFP Cell Technology

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Pvt. Ltd (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M), an Indian battery manufacturer, has recently entered into a technical licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia s.r.o., a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd. The agreement will enable Amara Raja to produce LFP cells in both cylindrical and prismatic form factors, as well as provide access to cell technology IP, support in establishing Gigafactory facilities, integration with Gotion’s supply chain for battery materials, and customer technical support.

This collaboration aims to support Amara Raja’s efforts to operationalize its Gigafactory manufacturing capacities and its advanced research and innovation centre, ‘e+ Energy Labs’. Last year, Amara Raja announced an investment of INR 9,500 crores to establish the Amara Raja Giga Corridor in Telangana, with the goal of maintaining competitive and contemporary products through continuous improvements in cell performance and process efficiencies.

Amara Raja and Gotion are shareholders and board members of InoBat, a lithium battery technology company in Slovakia. GIB, a joint venture between Gotion High-tech and InoBat, has signed an investment agreement with the Slovakian government for the development of the first LFP battery Gigafactory in Slovakia. Gotion High-Tech, with its 8 global R&D centres and 8,000 patented technologies covering the battery industry value chain, is expected to achieve a capacity layout of 300GWh by 2025.
