The distinguished fashion house AELIS has recently unveiled its latest collection, titled “History and High Technology.” This captivating collection presents a unique fusion of historical inspiration and state-of-the-art technology, culminating in a visually compelling narrative that reflects humanity’s profound impact on the world.
The collection’s theme adopts an anti-gravitational approach, drawing inspiration from space archaeology and satellite imagery of the Sahara desert and pyramids. To realize this vision, AELIS has partnered with the esteemed Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to develop ultra-tech fabrics enriched with golden and silver nanoparticles of precious metals.
Designer Sofia Crociani has skillfully integrated antique black velvet pieces from the Paris Opéra archives, injecting new life and contemporary flair into historical textiles. Notable among the collection is a 1950s dress previously worn by a contemporary artist in a one-night-only performance, ingeniously reimagined to showcase its rich history while embracing modern sophistication.
The collection also includes a graphic, long-sleeved black velvet dress paying homage to John Singer Sargent’s iconic painting “Madame X.” Additionally, an asymmetrical tattoo necklace crafted from black micro crystal beads by Les Interessants adds a touch of avant-garde elegance. Furthermore, a Renaissance-inspired black velvet jacket adorned with fine gold and silver chains stands as a testament to AELIS’s commitment to creating unique and luxurious pieces.
In a remarkable demonstration of sustainable fashion, AELIS has seamlessly integrated antique lace and silver organza embroidery with eco-conscious mohair wool in a black and white Chantilly tank top dress. Through collaboration with Professor Kinor Jiang’s team at PolyU, AELIS has developed sustainable, high-tech fabrics by applying ultra-thin metallic films of gold and silver onto organic silk organza using a magnetron sputtering coating technique, resulting in ethereal, air-light fabrics that are both precious and eco-friendly.
The collection culminates with pieces such as a pyramid-shaped silver organza dress and a breathtaking vintage black feather gold ball gown. An asymmetrical gold organza tunic adorned with silk embroidery recovered from a treasured 1924 gown further underscores the harmonious blend of historical reverence and modern innovation. The collection was presented in a striking white gallery designed by Pierre Bénard, evoking a timeless, “Kubrickian” atmosphere where contemporary design and Roman antiques coexist under zenithal light.
AELIS’s commitment to an eco-conscious future is evident through its esteemed upcycling partnership with the Paris Opéra and its groundbreaking green technology collaboration with PolyU. This multicultural and collaborative effort underscores AELIS’s visionary approach to fashion, striving to reduce human impact on the planet while celebrating the union of history, technology, and sustainable innovation.
For fashion enthusiasts and connoisseurs, AELIS’s “History and High Technology” collection offers a captivating journey through time and innovation, encapsulating the ethos of sustainable luxury and artistic creativity. View the stunning collection in the Gallery below.
