Headway Technology Group, a Chinese marine equipment provider, has recently entered into a contract with Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping (Group) to provide methanol fuel supply systems for a series of dual-fuel bulk carriers. The agreement pertains to the supply of equipment for 4+6 ships, each with a weight of 89,000 dwt.
The contract includes various core modules, such as bunkering and transfer systems, methanol fuel treatment units, nitrogen systems, and control and security systems. The vessels will be fitted with MAN B&W 6S60ME-C10.5-LGIM-EGRBP engines and will be constructed at Wuhu Shipyard.
The initial four vessels are presently under construction and are expected to be finished and delivered between 2025 and 2026. According to Headway Technology, the OceanGuard methanol fuel supply system is a domestically developed solution that has been successfully utilized in previous applications. The systems have undergone thorough testing and have demonstrated their ability to meet the operational requirements of large marine dual-fuel engines.
In a noteworthy development, Headway Technology has also formed a partnership with Italy’s Fratelli Cosulich to supply a methanol fuel supply system for a 7,990 DWT methanol dual-fuel tanker. This tanker is said to be the world’s first vessel to utilize MAN 21/31DF-M generators as its main propulsion power. The collaboration involves the provision of various solutions, including bunkering and transfer systems, methanol fuel treatment units, double-walled pipe ventilation systems, and control and security systems.
Furthermore, the inaugural 7,990 dwt IMO II methanol dual-fuel tanker commissioned by Fratelli Cosulich from Taizhou Fengye Shipyard is set to be equipped with Headway’s OceanGuard supply system and is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Looking ahead, Headway Technology is positioning itself to take advantage of the emerging trends in low-carbon shipping and ship intelligence. The company has reiterated its commitment to providing green solutions for low-carbon shipping to its partners and is dedicated to promoting innovation in the marine technology sector.
