The National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) has effectively transformed the entrepreneurial landscape in Sarawak, delivering essential training and resources to more than 3,850 entrepreneurs in the region. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil highlighted NADI’s instrumental role in equipping entrepreneurs with the skills needed to excel in online marketing, particularly on platforms such as Shopee. As a result of this training, these entrepreneurs collectively achieved sales of over RM2.56 million between June 2021 and December 2023.
One particularly noteworthy success story is Ms. Ramtiniwaiti Ramlee from NADI Kampung Gedong in Simunjan district, Batang Sadong. Thanks to the skills acquired through NADI, Ms. Ramlee successfully expanded her business globally, entering markets in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Spain, India, China, Japan, Indonesia, and several other Southeast Asian countries. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of NADI’s initiatives in driving Sarawak’s youth towards economic success.
In response to Dr. Richard Rapu @ Aman anak Begri’s (GPS-Betong) inquiry regarding the digital entrepreneurship courses offered at NADI in Sarawak and measures to enhance their accessibility and quality, Fahmi emphasized NADI’s pivotal role in enhancing the socio-economic well-being of local communities. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is actively expanding NADI’s reach in Sarawak, with plans to establish 23 new centres by the end of this year, bringing the total number to 156.
NADI currently operates 133 centres in Sarawak, and with the One-State Constituency-One-NADI initiative, the network of centres is set to expand further. Nationally, there are 911 NADI centres in operation, and an additional 186 are in the pipeline. By the end of this year, the construction of these new centres in state constituencies that previously lacked NADI facilities is expected to be completed.
In addition to the expansion of NADI centres, Fahmi also mentioned the progress of the Point of Presence (PoP) project, with the first phase nearing completion. This underscores the government’s commitment to broadening the accessibility and quality of digital entrepreneurship courses provided by NADI.
The success of NADI’s initiatives in Sarawak serves as a testament to the positive impact of empowering entrepreneurs with the necessary knowledge and resources to thrive in the digital economy.
