The Health & Fitness Association, formerly known as IHRSA, recently announced the appointment of Sean Tan, a highly regarded attorney and international industry advocate based in Singapore, as the senior representative in Asia. Tan’s new role will entail representing the HFA in the region, collaborating with other regional organizations, expanding the association’s membership base, and facilitating the establishment and growth of regional and national federations and industry partner organizations.
Liz Clark, the president and CEO of HFA, expressed her confidence in Tan, emphasizing his significant presence in the Asian fitness industry. She stated, “There are few health and fitness industry leaders as successful and well-known in Asia as Sean Tan. His background as an entrepreneur, thought leader, and industry advocate will well serve the association’s members and support our federation partners.”
Tan, a former treasurer and council member of WorldActive and the president and co-founder of the Singapore Fitness Alliance, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As an attorney with an LLB from the National University of Singapore and on-site legal counsel to the Singapore team during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Tan’s expertise will undoubtedly benefit the HFA and its members. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of RX Health.
In his response to the appointment, Tan expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to represent the Health & Fitness Association in such a vital region. He emphasized the importance of national industry associations in unifying the industry for the betterment of physical and mental health in Asia and around the world.
This appointment aligns with the HFA’s strategic efforts to establish relationships with overseas partners. Clark cited the association’s intention to collaborate with more than 20 federations in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, with the aim of creating a consortium to enhance their collective impact.
