The Courtauld Gallery is extending hours for its Monet exhibition to accommodate more visitors. The exhibition showcases Monet’s Thames paintings for the first time in 120 years, with extended hours from 13th to 19th January 2025. Special late-night events will also be held during this final week, with tickets available online.

The Courtauld Gallery will extend its opening hours for a week to allow more visitors to experience its Monet and London exhibition. This exhibition features Monet’s Thames series, painted during his stays in London from 1899 to 1901. Although he intended to show them in London after their Paris debut in 1904, plans fell through at the time. To fulfil this ambition, the gallery has organised the exhibition just 300 metres from the Savoy Hotel where Monet once lodged.

Due to high demand, the gallery will remain open until 9pm from 13th to 16th January and from 18th to 19th January 2025. On 17th January, the hours will extend until 10:30pm during ‘Courtauld Lates’, featuring bars and a live DJ. Tickets are available for these extended slots on The Courtauld’s website.

Claude Monet’s series of paintings depicting the Thames is a significant art historical event, as it is the first time the collection has been exhibited together in 120 years. These artworks, painted during a creative period in London, document an iconic era and the artist’s relationship with the city. The Courtauld Gallery aims to resurrect Monet’s desire to present this collection in London, thus creating a unique opportunity for contemporary audiences to engage with these seminal works in their historical context.

The Courtauld Gallery’s decision to extend its hours reflects the high interest in Monet’s work. This exhibition not only bridges a historic gap by showcasing these paintings together but also allows visitors a final chance to experience this important collection before it concludes. The announcement of extended hours, particularly during ‘Courtauld Lates’, adds to the excitement and accessibility of this cultural event.
