Barbara Steveni (1928-2020) was a trailblazing artist and activist whose work redefined the relationship between artists and societal practices during the industrial era. Her establishment of the Artist Placement Group (APG) emphasized the importance of artists in non-traditional settings, paving the way for modern artist residencies. This retrospective at Modern Art Oxford aims to illuminate her vast contributions to the art community and reveal how her practices have influenced contemporary art.
