The China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) will be held in Beijing from July 16-20, 2024, following a promotional roadshow in London aimed at strengthening China-UK trade ties. Key focuses include resilience amid global challenges, the importance of AI in supply chains, and opportunities for foreign businesses in a competitive market.
Business leaders from China and the UK convened in London to promote the upcoming China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), scheduled for July 16-20 in Beijing. This edition, the third of its kind, focuses on the resilience of global supply chains amidst current challenges.
Hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the China-Britain Business Council, the roadshow aimed at enhancing trade ties and discovering new cooperation opportunities. CCPIT vice chair Yu Jianlong highlighted the importance of this partnership for global economic development.
Global supply chains facilitate the production of goods across various locations but are facing threats from tariffs, shipping disruptions, and climate change. Sherard Cowper-Coles, chair of the China-Britain Business Council, noted that businesses need to focus on 85% of global trade unaffected by new tariffs.
The CISCE will spotlight six themes: advanced manufacturing, clean energy, smart vehicles and digital technology, healthy living, green agriculture, and prominently feature artificial intelligence (AI). Jack Perry, CEO of the London Export Corporation, stressed the significance of AI in the future of supply chains, suggesting that adaptation to AI and blockchain technologies is crucial for success.
The event also allowed British leaders with experience in China to discuss the competitive landscape, where local firms are gaining strength. Jeff Astle from the London Shanghai Business Center noted increasing opportunities despite challenges for foreign companies.
With nearly 200 companies registering as of February, organizers expect a larger attendance for the July expo following successful past events, underlining the growing significance of supply chain collaboration.
The roadshow in London aimed to bolster China-UK trade relations while addressing the challenges and opportunities within global supply chains. With a focus on six specific sectors and the integral role of AI, the upcoming CISCE promises to enhance cooperation. The increasing strengths of local Chinese businesses highlight the need for adaptation and strategic planning among foreign firms.
