Stephen Jelley returns to BTCC in 2025 with One Motorsport, driving a Honda Civic Type R after a season in Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Jelley has noted the appeal and costs of BTCC make his return advantageous. In parallel, Power Maxed Racing continues its participation with a single Vauxhall Astra, despite earlier sponsorship challenges.
Stephen Jelley, a four-time race winner in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), is making a surprising return in 2025 with One Motorsport, driving a Honda Civic Type R. Jelley transitions from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB to reunite with team leader Josh Cook after eight years.
Reflecting on his decision, Jelley acknowledged the appeal of BTCC and noted that the associated costs have become more manageable. He found a deal that resembles his previous Carrera Cup budget, thus he viewed his return as a beneficial opportunity.
Jelley described his positive impression of One Motorsport’s facility and its staff’s commitment to the team. The team will use a customer TOCA engine from M-Sport, continuing with the Civic FK8s, which had an effective run until 2022.
Though Jelley has mainly competed in rear-wheel-drive cars, he doesn’t fear racing in front-wheel drive, emphasising the Honda’s reputation as user-friendly. His previous experience with the 2017 car alongside Cook gives him some confidence going forward.
In other news, despite losing its title sponsor, Power Maxed Racing will field a single Vauxhall Astra this season, securing new sponsorship with Motor Parts Direct. PMR’s participation was uncertain earlier, but the announcement ensures a competitive grid will continue in the BTCC.
Stephen Jelley’s return to BTCC marks a significant moment, especially his switch to front-wheel-drive racing with One Motorsport. His familiarity with Cook and enthusiasm for BTCC suggest a promising season ahead. Meanwhile, Power Maxed Racing’s continued presence assures a growing diversity of competition within the championship, enhancing the excitement for fans.
