The exhibition showcases a mix of new works and existing pieces, creating a dialogue with historical designs from Spazio Leone’s collection, bridging contemporary textile art and classic design.
Inspired by R.D. Laing’s book, Knots, Atkinson explores perception through hybrid creations that blend functionality and aesthetics. Her work features handwoven blankets, dynamic rugs, and intricate tapestries made from silk and cotton, alongside a modular chair and footstool that transforms into sculpture.
Unique items handcrafted from 100% pure virgin wool using a traditional Hutsul technique from the 14th century are also displayed. Each piece undergoes a meticulous process involving weaving on wooden looms, river felting, sun-drying, and hand-brushing for a soft feel, with artisanal details like twigs and colour variations enhancing their charm.
Originally from New Zealand and based in Paris, Grace Atkinson emphasises ancient craft techniques while working closely with artisans. Her textiles express potent aesthetics and create sensory experiences, linking traditional practices with modern design. For a preview of her pieces from ‘all in each’, check out the gallery above.
