Formula E has extended its contract with Excel London to host the London ePrix until at least 2026, aligning with both organisations’ sustainability goals. The race uses the venue’s unique indoor-outdoor setup, providing a thrilling experience while adhering to green initiatives. The event, returning after a five-year hiatus, previously took place in Battersea Park.

The extended contract allows the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to utilise the only indoor-outdoor racetrack until the end of the GEN3 Evo era. Notably, this means the London ePrix will possibly host the final race of the season 12 calendar, featuring top drivers competing for prestigious titles.

Formula E chief championship officer, Alberto Longo, praised Excel London for its ideal track conditions and event space, which amalgamate racing and entertainment sustainably. Noteworthy improvements have also been made to ensure the track’s FIA compliance, focusing on how to make the indoor conditions effective for racing.

Excel London’s director of immersive entertainment, Darren Norman, highlighted the collaboration’s growth from merely an event to a comprehensive sustainability initiative. They now store essential materials onsite, eliminating transport needs, and encourage public transport use among visitors, enhancing their shared commitment to carbon neutrality.

The partnership is also contributing to local charities, such as supporting Richard’s House Children’s Hospice and funding electric vehicle initiatives for local food banks. This collaboration has garnered Excel London recognition, recently winning the Exhibition News’ ESG award for best in the UK. It underscores their mutual dedication to environmental responsibility while promoting the unique capabilities of the venue through the visibility offered by Formula E.

The extended collaboration between Formula E and Excel London, lasting until 2026, signifies a shared commitment to sustainability through the London ePrix.
