Excel London welcomes its 60 millionth visitor during its 25th anniversary. The venue has hosted major events from the G20 Summit to Olympic Games. An expansion will make it the largest venue in Europe, and it has plans for new attractions this summer. Visitor Nigel Fowler received prizes including tickets to Immerse LDN.

Excel London recently celebrated a significant milestone by welcoming its 60 millionth visitor during the Learning Technologies exhibition. This comes as the venue marks its 25th anniversary, having opened its doors back in 2000 in London’s Royal Docks. Over the years, Excel has hosted high-profile events like the G20 Summit in 2009 and several events for the Olympic Games in 2012, attracting big names like Google and Amazon.

During the pandemic, Excel played a crucial role, transforming in just nine days into NHS Nightingale Hospital. Nowadays, it’s a hot spot for popular events, including MCM Comic Con, and it even serves as a racetrack for Formula E, plus filming locations for major films such as Mission Impossible and music videos.

Today, around four million people visit Excel each year. Out of this total, about one million are international travellers. The venue hosts up to 400 events annually, which is instrumental in supporting over 37,000 jobs and boosting both local and national economy through tourism.

Coinciding with its anniversary, Excel is set to complete a substantial expansion of 25,000sqm by this year’s end. This development will help it become Europe’s largest fully integrated venue, totalling 125,000sqm. Additionally, a new attraction called Immerse LDN, featuring events like The Formula 1® Exhibition, is launching soon and has already sold over a million tickets.

The 60 millionth visitor was Nigel Fowler, coming from Cardiff to the Learning Technologies exhibition. He was awarded a bottle of champagne, a hotel stay, and tickets to Immerse LDN. Presenting the prizes were Caroline Gourlay from Excel and CloserStill’s COO Suzanne King.

Humaid Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Excel London, expressed his commitment to making the venue a world-class destination for events and strengthening its presence in business tourism. Excel CEO Jeremy Rees echoed this, highlighting the significance of the 60 million milestone and looking to a transformative 2025, when new expansions will allow the venue to connect more lives through impactful events.
