On the 30th, Genesis revealed plans for a solo exhibition titled “The Genesis Expedition: Seo Do-ho,” set to take place at the London Museum of Modern Art from May 1 to October 19. This marks Seo Do-ho’s first major solo showcase in London, shedding light on his artistic journey spanning over three decades in Seoul, New York, and London.
The exhibition aims to explore Seo’s unique take on the relationship between architecture, space, the body, and memory. Visitors can expect a diverse array of art forms on display, including large installations, sculptures, videos, and drawings, all reflecting Seo’s thoughts on topics such as residence and movement.
Titled “Walk the House,” the exhibition name captures the essence of mobility, mirroring the traditional Korean hanok that can be disassembled and reassembled elsewhere. This theme resonates with Seo’s enduring interest in the concept of “house,” a pivotal space in shaping identities for both individuals and communities.
Among the highlights of this exhibition are several new works making their debut, particularly two site-specific installations. These installations will recreate the environments Seo has inhabited, such as “Nest/s (2024)” and “Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence, and Seoul (2024),” using translucent cloth structures that mirror their real counterparts.
A Genesis representative commented, “Based on his intimate exploration of memory and movement, Seo-ho has closely looked at the changing and expanding perceptions of time and space in the history of individuals and groups. We hope this exhibition will be an opportunity for the audience to rediscover the true value of life.”
In tandem with this exhibition, Genesis is also rolling out the Genesis Art Initiative. Following the signing of a medium- to long-term partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York last July, this initiative aims to provide ongoing inspiration while supporting the vision of global creators. Genesis is committed to engaging in distinctive cultural and artistic sponsorships, tapping into collaborations with prominent art institutions worldwide.
