EnQuest Adds New Leadership to Drive Growth in Energy Transition and Infrastructure Development

EnQuest, a UK independent, has implemented substantial changes within its leadership team by appointing a new chief executive for its subsidiary dedicated to new energy and existing infrastructure, as well as naming a new chief financial officer.

Salman Malik, who currently holds the position of EnQuest’s chief financial officer, has been chosen to lead Veri Energy, the company’s subsidiary devoted to new energy initiatives. Despite his new role, Malik will retain an executive director position on EnQuest’s board, ensuring alignment with the parent company’s corporate strategy and net-zero commitment.

Having joined EnQuest in 2013, Malik has played a crucial role in shaping the group’s strategy, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions. In his statement, Malik expressed his enthusiasm for energy transition and his dedication to positioning Veri Energy as a prominent player in infrastructure and new-energy projects. He emphasized Veri’s initial focus on leveraging EnQuest’s capabilities to advance large-scale decarbonisation and new-energy initiatives, such as carbon capture and storage, green hydrogen, and electrification at the Sullom Voe Terminal.

The strategic appointments of Malik and the new chief financial officer, Jonathan Copus, represent a significant advancement in EnQuest’s plan to develop an infrastructure and new-energy business, while providing Veri with opportunities to benefit from financial and strategic partnerships.

Copus, who is scheduled to assume the role of EnQuest’s chief financial officer on 1 February, brings a wealth of experience to the company. With a background in geology, geoscience, and a decade of capital markets experience, Copus previously served as chief executive at Getech Group and held the position of chief financial officer at Salamander Energy. His diverse expertise in the energy and natural resource sectors will be valuable as he joins the EnQuest board as an executive director next year.

Amjad Bseisu, CEO of EnQuest, expressed confidence in the future of Veri Energy and the strategic importance of these appointments.
