Ministry to Enhance Digital Economy Centers to Empower Young Entrepreneurs

2 min read

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is making preparations to enhance the Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) to increase the involvement of young entrepreneurs in the digital economy. Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the crucial role of PEDi in driving the digital economy at the grassroots level, serving as a platform to empower individuals to generate income within their local communities.

Fadzil expressed the ministry’s desire to engage more young entrepreneurs, particularly men, in light of the current predominance of women entrepreneurs. He underscored that participation in the digital economy does not necessarily entail individuals relocating, as they can derive benefits and earn a sustainable income from their hometowns.

The government aims to cultivate 10,000 digital economy entrepreneurs nationwide through the PEDi initiative in the coming year. This initiative, led by KKD in collaboration with the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and telecommunication service providers, aims to equip local communities with digital skills and create income-generating opportunities through e-Commerce platforms.

At the MADANI Government One Year Anniversary Programme at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Fadzil and KKD secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa visited the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) booth. Fadzil encouraged visitors to take advantage of the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the roles and services of ministries and agencies, as well as to explore the MADANI Mega Sales programme, which includes Rahmah Sales and MADANI Agro Sales.

The three-day anniversary programme, featuring daily activities from 9 am to 10 pm, focuses on the MADANI Government’s One Year Achievement Showcase, people’s touchpoint services, and the People’s Wellbeing Initiatives. This event aims to serve as a platform for individuals to learn, engage, and benefit from the diverse array of government initiatives and services.

By enhancing the Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) and increasing the engagement of young entrepreneurs, the KKD is taking significant strides towards nurturing a more robust and inclusive digital economy. This initiative is poised to not only empower individuals with essential digital skills but also create sustainable income opportunities at the local level, thereby contributing to the overall economic growth and prosperity of the nation.
