In a recent ruling, the infamous Kamloops drug dealer, Jeffrey Kerr Milne, has been granted day parole, despite his extensive criminal record and dedication to a life of crime. This decision has been made just eighteen months into his nearly six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Milne’s encounters with the law involve an incident in which he was found in possession of large quantities of meth, fentanyl, and cocaine, as well as a substantial amount of cash, empty bags, and drug paraphernalia. This was followed by another arrest in which he was discovered with even more drugs, cash, and a weapon. The total value of the drugs seized during these arrests amounted to $17,500.
Despite his criminal history, the Parole Board of Canada justified its decision based on Milne’s exemplary behavior while in prison, including successfully avoiding negative influences and drug use, as well as completing recommended programming and exhibiting positive progress in his correctional plan.
However, the Board also acknowledged Milne’s past challenges, including being caught with drugs while in prison as recently as 2021, and a long history of criminal commitment, drug-related offenses, and non-compliance with community supervision conditions.
Nonetheless, Milne is scheduled to become eligible for full parole in the near future, a decision that has generated controversy and apprehension among those familiar with his criminal activities and their impact on the community.
