Lhyfe Unveils 5MW Hydrogen Production Facility in Buléon, France

Lhyfe, a prominent leader in sustainable energy, has officially unveiled its latest green hydrogen production facility in Buléon, France. This establishment, known as Lhyfe Bretagne, is poised to supply hydrogen for local transportation and the industrial activities of companies in the area. The endeavor is part of the VHyGO project, which is supported by ADEME and strives to create a hydrogen supply chain throughout the Great West region of France.

The 5MW site has the capability to generate up to two tonnes of green and renewable hydrogen daily. This sustainable fuel will enable a hydrogen-powered truck to travel approximately 25,000km without emitting harmful pollutants. Furthermore, Lhyfe has secured Power Purchase Agreements with various renewable energy producers, further enhancing the eco-friendly credentials of the site. The company intends to increase production to 80 tonnes daily by 2026, demonstrating its dedication to advancing the green hydrogen industry.

As part of the VHyGO initiative, Lhyfe Bretagne will establish two HyGO filling stations in the Lorient area. These stations will cater to the needs of land and maritime transportation, with hydrogen-powered buses and boats set to be deployed in the near future. Regarding the inauguration of the Buléon facility, Matthieu Guesné, the Founder and CEO of Lhyfe, expressed his optimism about the project’s impact on the region. He highlighted the site’s potential to drive decarbonisation efforts in industry and transportation, indicating a promising future for renewable hydrogen in Brittany.

Local government officials have also expressed their support for the project, emphasizing its role in fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability. Fabrice Loher, President of Lorient Agglomération and Mayor of Lorient, underscored the significance of integrating renewable hydrogen into the regional energy landscape. He highlighted the upcoming deployment of hydrogen-powered buses and the launch of an apprenticeship engineering degree focused on energy and hydrogen as key milestones in Lorient’s transition towards a greener future.

Aligning with its commitment to sustainable practices, Lorient Agglomération aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and have a fully clean vehicle fleet by 2030. This includes the adoption of bio-compressed natural gas (BioNGV) and hydrogen-powered buses, with hydrogen services scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
