African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation and Government of Rwanda to Finalize Agreement

The esteemed African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, is poised to finalize the Host Country Agreement. The momentous occasion is scheduled to take place at the Convention Centre in Kigali on December 18, 2023, at 10:00 am Rwanda time. This historic event also includes the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Foundation and the European Investment Bank.

Eminent dignitaries and notable figures expected to attend the event include Dr Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda; Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group; Professor Padmashree Gehl Sampath, CEO of the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation; Dr Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany; Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice President of the European Investment Bank; Markus Berndt, Managing Director of EIB Global; along with diplomatic representatives from various African and other countries.

The formation of the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation as an independent entity received approval from the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group in June 2022. With substantial support from global and African entities, the Foundation is positioned to play a transformative role in the pharmaceutical sector in Africa. It aims to facilitate collaboration between the public and private sectors in Africa, North America, Europe, and other developing regions, marking a significant milestone.

The pivotal role played by the Government of Rwanda in advocating for the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation and granting it the status of an international agency has been instrumental in its success.
