The Belfast City Council is preparing to launch a new initiative at the beginning of the New Year aimed at young entrepreneurs in the city. The “21 Under 21 – Entrepreneurs to Watch in Belfast” competition is designed to identify and support 21 exceptional potential young entrepreneurs, providing them with the opportunity to participate in a three-month programme of action-oriented workshops.
Young individuals aged 16-21 who are either in the early stages of starting their own business or are considering the idea of entrepreneurship are eligible to apply for the competition. The programme aims to provide these budding entrepreneurs with the necessary support and resources to help fast-track their success in the business world.
In addition to the workshops, the competition is also offering participants the chance to win a £2,000 cash boost, courtesy of sponsors Danske Bank and Pacem Accounting & Tax. The lucky winner will also be named Belfast’s first ever Young Entrepreneur of the Year, an incredible opportunity to gain recognition for their hard work and dedication.
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Ryan Murphy, expressed his strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the entrepreneurial talent of the city’s young people. He highlighted the crucial role that young entrepreneurs play in the future success and growth of Belfast, and stressed the council’s commitment to providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive.
The programme is set to feature a lineup of top-class entrepreneurial speakers, a proven playbook, and a support network of 20 other exceptional entrepreneurs. Furthermore, successful applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their ventures and gain valuable exposure, enhancing their prospects for future success.
The application process for the competition opens on December 14, 2023 and closes on January 10, 2024. Applicants are required to submit a maximum three-minute video authentic to themselves as an entrepreneur, showcasing their business idea or venture. Successful applicants will be notified in early January, with the workshops scheduled to take place from early February to late March 2024.
This initiative represents a significant opportunity for young individuals in Belfast who are passionate about entrepreneurship and eager to kick start their business journeys. The support and resources offered through the programme, coupled with the chance to win a substantial cash prize and gain recognition as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year, make this an exciting and promising endeavor for young entrepreneurs in the city.
