The Most Iconic Cars in Christmas Movies

Every year, the Christmas season heralds a plethora of traditions, among which is the time-honoured ritual of viewing classic Christmas films. Have you ever pondered on which car models prominently feature in these popular holiday blockbusters? Wonder no more, as a recent study conducted by the esteemed leasing company Vanarama has meticulously examined the most favoured Christmas movies to ascertain the cars that steal the limelight.

Vanarama meticulously scrutinised 20 well-known Christmas movies, including “Home Alone”, “Elf”, “Love Actually”, and “Die Hard”, amongst others. The total count of a staggering 367 vehicles was formulated in order to determine the cars that take centre stage in these beloved cinematic works.

Results reveal that Ford emerges as the undisputed champion, with the highest number of appearances in Christmas films, featuring in 18 out of the 20 movies analysed. Cumulatively, Ford made an impressive 68 appearances, shining prominently in “Christmas with the Kranks” and “Gremlins”, where it exhibits a remarkable presence of 10 instances in each. Ironically, the only two films without a Ford are “The Santa Claus 2” and “The Santa Claus 3”.

Closely following is Chevrolet, which boasts 39 appearances across 14 of the 20 Christmas movies. Its most notable display is evident in “Home Alone 2”, featuring a total of seven Chevrolets. Meanwhile, Toyota also leaves a significant mark with 20 appearances, gracing 11 of the 20 productions, particularly in “Christmas with the Kranks”.

The most iconic vehicle in these Christmas movies is none other than the Ford Crown Victoria, making a grand entrance 13 times. This iconic model is best known for being the car of choice for U.S. law enforcement, and it stars prominently in “Elf”. Not far behind is the Ford Econoline, which makes appearances nine times, featuring prominently in “Die Hard”, “Home Alone”, “The Santa Claus”, and “Fred Claus”.

In terms of vehicle types, sedans take the lead with an impressive 156 appearances in Christmas movies. Pick-up trucks follow closely with 35 appearances, and coupe-style models come in at a close third with 33 appearances.

As for the Christmas movies with the most cars, “Christmas with the Kranks” takes the first position with a total of 43 cars, closely followed by “Home Alone 2” with 41 vehicles, and “Love Actually” with 35. Surprisingly, “Die Hard”, despite being an action film, secures the fifth spot with 28 models.
