On December 25th, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, made an announcement on X (previously known as Twitter) regarding the highly-anticipated Xiaomi EV Technology launch event. This event is set to occur on December 28 at 2:00 PM Beijing Time (11:30 AM IST) and will be live-streamed on Xiaomi’s official YouTube channel.
The focus of the event will solely be on the technological aspects of Xiaomi’s electric vehicles, with no new product introductions planned. Xiaomi has attracted attention in the market since unveiling its intentions to enter electric car manufacturing. The company recently introduced its first electric vehicle, the SU7, in China, which has generated substantial interest among consumers.
The SU7 is an electric sedan available in two variations, one with Lidar and one without. It comes with two powertrain options – Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The RWD variant features a single electric motor on the rear axle, producing 295 bhp, while the AWD version boasts a higher power output of 663 bhp, with a 295 bhp electric motor on the front axle and a 368 bhp electric motor on the rear axle.
In terms of battery packs, the lower trims of the SU7 will feature LFP battery packs from BYD, while the upscale variants will be equipped with NMC battery packs from CATL. As expected with electric vehicles, the weight of the battery impacts the car’s overall weight, with the Xiaomi SU7 ranging from 1,980 kg for the base models to 2,205 kg for the top-end trim. The lower variants will achieve a top speed of 210 kmph, while the higher variants will reach 265 kmph.
The company’s venture into electric car manufacturing is part of its broader strategy to diversify its product offerings and solidify its position as a key player in the rapidly evolving automotive industry. With the official launch event approaching, automotive enthusiasts and tech aficionados alike are eagerly anticipating further details about Xiaomi’s electric vehicle technology.
As the countdown begins for Xiaomi’s EV Technology launch, all eyes are on the Chinese tech giant as it prepares to unveil the technological prowess behind its electric vehicles. Stay tuned for updates and insights as Xiaomi takes its next big step in the world of electric vehicle manufacturing.
