Mobile Intelligence Technologies (MI Tech), established by talented students from Ndarama High School in Zimbabwe, emerged as the victor at the 2023 JA Africa Company of the Year (COY) Competition in Kigali, Rwanda. The event featured 40 student entrepreneurs from 10 African countries presenting their innovative business solutions aimed at addressing community challenges.
In a remarkable display of entrepreneurial prowess, MI Tech secured the top spot, earning a trophy and a cash prize of $1,000. This win also grants them the opportunity to compete globally at JA Worldwide’s Ralph De la Vega Global Entrepreneurship competition, where they stand to win a $15,000 cash prize and valuable educational opportunities.
Following closely in second place was AID Electronics from Ghana, and UNWIND from South Africa clinched the third spot. These impressive teams were awarded with $800 and $500 cash prizes respectively for their outstanding performance at the competition.
The event also saw several other teams and individuals being honoured with awards from esteemed sponsors such as FedEx, Citi Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, and Delta Air Lines among others.
The President and CEO of JA Africa, Simi Nwogugu, shared her thoughts on empowering Africa’s youth, emphasizing the importance of preparing them from a young age to envision themselves as future leaders and CEOs. This sentiment was echoed by Ruzive Anesu, the CEO of MI Tech, who credited the JA Company Program for instilling confidence and providing a platform for students to turn their ideas into actionable business ventures.
The success of the JA Africa COY Competition serves as a testament to the untapped potential of the continent’s youth. By nurturing their creativity and problem-solving abilities, this platform equips them with essential leadership skills, paving the way for them to become the business leaders of tomorrow.
The event also underscored the global significance of these young entrepreneurs’ endeavors, with MI Tech aiming to address the scarcity of adequately equipped science laboratories, breaking down barriers of socio-economic status, location, gender, race, disability, and digital access.
In the words of Nwogugu, “At JA Africa, we truly believe that the future is African.” Through initiatives like the COY Competition, the organization is working towards preparing Africa’s youth to take on leadership roles and drive positive change in the continent.
This year’s competition showcased the indomitable spirit and ingenuity of Africa’s young minds, highlighting their potential to spearhead the transformation of the continent and bring about the Africa we aspire to create.
