Raytheon Secures New Contract to Expand StormBreaker Munitions Production

Raytheon, located in Tucson, Arizona, has been granted a contract modification valued at $344.6 million to increase the production of StormBreaker munitions. This agreement encompasses all up rounds, containers, and trainers, further cementing Raytheon’s status as a leading provider of precision weaponry on a global scale.

The production of StormBreaker Production Lot 10 is scheduled to begin following the contract award by the US Defense Department, with operations to be conducted in Tucson, Arizona and an anticipated completion date of August 30, 2028.

This contract modification is notable for its international reach. Raytheon’s StormBreaker munitions are slated for deployment through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to key allies such as Norway, Germany, Italy, and Finland, underscoring the confidence these nations have in Raytheon’s technology and its capability to deliver precision munitions.

Raytheon has achieved significant milestones with its StormBreaker munitions, including successful guided releases of the precision munition from various aircraft for the US Navy, the F-15E aircraft, and an F-35B Lightning II aircraft.

The funding breakdown for this contract modification reflects strategic allocation, with contributions from fiscal 2023 and 2024 Air Force procurement missile funds, fiscal 2024 Navy procurement weapons funds, and foreign military sales funding, highlighting the cross-service utility and international collaboration inherent in this agreement.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, situated at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, is the entity that granted the contract, demonstrating the close collaboration between Raytheon and key defence organizations.

Designed to enhance the capabilities of the US Air Force in adverse weather conditions, StormBreaker’s tri-mode seeker allows for target detection through dust and debris, providing clear imaging to pilots. With a range of over 45 miles, this smart weapon ensures safer engagements, reduced flying times, and cost savings.

In a previous agreement, RTX secured a contract valued at $320 million to produce and deliver 1,500 StormBreaker smart weapon systems for the USAF, showcasing the demand for these precision munitions in modern warfare strategies.
