Celebrating the Achievements of Young Entrepreneurs in Southeast Saskatchewan

In an exciting development, CF Sunrise is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2023 YouthBiz entrepreneurship competition, which aims to empower students in southeast Saskatchewan with the knowledge and skills necessary for entering the business world. The competition awarded a total of $4,300 to young entrepreneurs, recognizing their dedication to developing innovative business ideas, enhancing financial literacy, and demonstrating creativity through digital media.

This year’s competition attracted 286 students from 13 schools in the region, showcasing the growing interest and enthusiasm among young individuals to explore entrepreneurship. CF Sunrise’s general manager, Andria Brady, expressed her delight at the overwhelming response to the competition, commending the students for their hard work and determination. She emphasized the competition’s significance in inspiring and equipping students with valuable skills in financial and digital literacy, as well as nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset.

It was noted that the unwavering support and commitment of teachers have been essential in creating an environment where students are encouraged to explore their creativity and business acumen. The competition not only aligns with the school curriculum but also fosters a sense of enterprise and innovation in the students.

The YouthBiz competition challenges students to delve into the business world by conceptualizing and evaluating business ideas for their potential profitability. In recent years, the competition has incorporated the digital sphere, requiring students to develop websites and digital materials as part of their business plans, reflecting the increasing significance of the digital landscape in entrepreneurship.

In the Grade 6-8 division, Fast Feet Studio from Carievale School secured the first position, followed by Xis Crafts from St. Michael School in Weyburn and Picture Perfect Photography at Midale Central School in the second and third positions, respectively. Additionally, Kevin Butz’s Grade 6 class at Weyburn’s Assiniboia Park Elementary School was honored with the Classroom Award for their exceptional performance.

In the Grades 9-12 category, Top Shelf Sticks & Skates from Midale Central School emerged victorious, with Cactus Cut Vintage and the Book Nook from Carnduff Education Complex claiming the second and third places. The Junior Achievement class at the Weyburn Comprehensive School also received the top business plan award for their venture, Sweets & Treats Co, showcasing their outstanding entrepreneurial skills.

Furthermore, several students were recognized with achievement awards for their exceptional contributions in various aspects, including website design, audio promotion, social responsibility, brochure design, social media marketing, and slogan creation.

Given the success of the 2023 YouthBiz competition, CF Sunrise has confirmed that the competition will return in the fall of 2024, providing another opportunity for young talents to showcase their entrepreneurial abilities.
