The Schuylkill Chamber Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of IGNITE Schuylkill, an innovative competition aimed at promoting the growth of emerging businesses in the region. This dynamic initiative consists of a 16-week educational program that will immerse aspiring entrepreneurs in coursework focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership. Renowned business owners will serve as guest lecturers, sharing their valuable insights and expertise, while local business leaders will act as mentors, offering guidance to participants as they navigate the complexities of launching a successful business venture.
The program’s highlight is an exciting competition, similar to the popular TV show “Shark Tank,” that will provide startup capital to entrepreneurs, offering a crucial financial boost to help kickstart their ventures. Those interested in participating can find the official rules and eligibility criteria at www.schuylkillchamber.com/igniteschuylkill/. Additionally, generous community investors have contributed substantial sponsorship funds to support the $100,000 in grant funds available to the competition winner or winners.
According to Kenneth Huebner, board chairman of the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), the organization has been dedicated to stimulating economic development and enhancing the quality of life in Schuylkill County communities since its establishment in 1952. As the Program Sponsor, SEDCO is a leading supporter of the program. Huebner emphasized that SEDCO collaborates with individuals across the county to revitalize downtowns and views entrepreneurial development as a critical component in achieving this goal.
Local entrepreneurs have expressed great enthusiasm for the program and are eager to participate in sparking new economic development in Schuylkill County. Bill Metzinger, president of Metz Properties and CEO of Red, White and Blue Autos, expressed his endorsement of the program and the resources it provides to current and future entrepreneurs. “I personally believe it’s crucial for us to grow and prosper in order to not only attract talented and successful individuals from outside the area to live in Schuylkill County, but also to retain our homegrown, best and brightest,” stated Metzinger.
