A New Gastronomic Adventure: Walking Food Tour to Launch in Leicestershire Town

2 min read

A new and exciting culinary adventure is scheduled to launch in Melton in March. The Hidden Food Tours will guide groups of eight on a delightful three-hour exploration of the town’s most popular food spots.

This walking food tour will offer participants the opportunity to enjoy the renowned pork pie and locally made Stilton cheese, as well as introducing them to newer additions to the town’s food scene such as Samosa Wallah and the Feast & The Furious smokehouse.

Covering a mile, the tour will include five stops. The creators of the tour aim to blend the stories of local food producers with the variety of food and drinks served in Melton’s “oldest and most historical establishments.” Charla Forinton and Matt Hall, the brains behind Hidden Food Tours and both passionate food enthusiasts, will lead the tour. They happen to be neighbours in the village of Stathern.

The tour will cost £65 per person and is set to commence on Saturday, March 16. Initially, it will run on the third Saturday of every month, transitioning to a bi-weekly schedule in the future.

Matt emphasized that the tour will offer a “boutique” adventure, filling a gap in the market as there is currently no existing food tour in Melton. He believes that as the ‘Rural Capital of Food’, Melton should have one to showcase its delectable culinary offerings.

While food tours are quite widespread throughout the country, particularly in London, Charla expressed her excitement in bringing the same level of gastronomic exploration to Melton. She shared, “Whenever I visit a new city, I always try to find a food tour to join. They’re a great way of discovering the local food and history of a place and we want to bring that excitement to Melton.”

For those interested in joining the food tour, more details and reservations can be made through the ‘Hidden Food Tours’ website.

In conclusion, this new initiative is all set to not only tantalize taste buds but also shed light on the town’s rich culinary history. It’s a promising opportunity for both locals and visitors to experience Melton’s vibrant food scene in a charming and immersive way.
