My First Experience with Himalayan Cuisine at a Bristol Gastropub

3 min read

I recently made the decision to broaden my culinary horizons and explore Himalayan cuisine. Although the Himalayas are commonly associated with mountains and cold weather, I had not previously considered the culinary offerings of this region.

As part of this culinary exploration, I visited the Fishponds Tap, a gastropub situated on Fishponds Road in Bristol. The establishment exuded a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and I was immediately captivated by the warm surroundings and the accommodating staff. I was eager to explore the Himalayan speciality menu offered at this venue.

Upon perusing the menu, I was delighted to discover a wide range of options at the Fishponds Tap, including pub classics as well as Himalayan dishes. I opted to commence my culinary journey with the Himalayan tandoori wings, which were marinated in a blend of Himalayan herbs and spices. The dish was served with mint sauce and homemade onion chutney, providing a delightful beginning to the evening.

During the course of my meal, I found that the pub offers an array of alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic options such as a pint of Diet Coke. The pricing of the drinks was reasonable, and the enticing variety of drink options added value to the overall experience.

The main course, the Himalayan lamb masala, proved to be a succulent and satisfying dish, accompanied by naan bread and basmati pilau rice. Despite not having a predilection for curry, I found the masala to be absolutely delicious, with the Himalayan spices offering a delightful kick to the dish, leaving a pleasant warmth after each bite.

An intriguing aspect of the evening was the pub’s choice of background music, which exclusively featured songs by Eminem. Although unexpected, this certainly contributed to the unique character of the establishment.

The dining experience culminated with a delightful dessert – Homemade Gulab Jamun, which consisted of soft fried dumplings soaked in a rose water sugar syrup. The sweetness of the dessert provided a perfect ending to the meal, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

The entire dining experience, including my preferred beverage, amounted to under £30, rendering it a delightful and affordable outing. The cozy and welcoming ambiance of the Fishponds Tap, combined with the delectable Himalayan cuisine, undoubtedly left a lasting impression on me.

In summary, my initial exploration of Himalayan cuisine at the Bristol gastropub was a delightful and fulfilling experience. The warm and inviting ambiance, the amicable staff, and the delectable dishes made for a memorable evening. It is safe to assert that the Fishponds Tap has unquestionably earned a place as the pub of the week in my estimation.
