In the pursuit of gender equality in entrepreneurship, women continue to encounter obstacles hindering them from attaining the same level of representation and success as their male counterparts. Despite the growing number of women establishing new businesses in the U.S., men still hold a considerable numerical advantage in the entrepreneurial sphere. These barriers impede the financial independence and improved livelihoods of numerous women and their families.
To address this pressing issue, serial entrepreneur and executive producer Kris Mathis conceived the concept of “Let’s Help Her Win”, a reality television series aimed at identifying the next successful woman entrepreneur, inventor, visionary, creator, and innovator in the Western Michigan area and its surroundings. The show, which completed production throughout 2023, is scheduled to premiere on March 30, 2024, at the Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The premiere event will feature the screening of the series’ inaugural episode, followed by a networking hour during which attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Mathis, the production team, the entrepreneurs and investors featured on the show, and fellow guests. The event aims to cultivate a supportive and celebratory community for women in entrepreneurship. Following the premiere, “Let’s Help Her Win” will be accessible on YouTube from April 3 and will also be broadcast on TV in the fall of 2024.
The show’s debut season showcases 12 women entrepreneurs from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) backgrounds, who will present their business ideas to a panel of local investors. These seasoned entrepreneurs are looking to offer investments and mentorship in entrepreneurship in exchange for an equity stake in the featured businesses.
Mathis, deeply invested in supporting women-owned businesses, has attributed his dedication to his upbringing by a single mother. The overwhelming response to “Let’s Help Her Win” on social media has further fuelled his commitment to expanding opportunities for women in business. The show’s production team, led by director Shania Lee and sound director Kameron Green, is staunchly dedicated to advocating for women in business.
Looking ahead, the second season of “Let’s Help Her Win” is already in production, with applications for entrepreneurs and investors for the next season set to open on March 30. Additionally, Mathis intends to adapt the show’s concept to other regions across the U.S., thus amplifying the impact of “Let’s Help Her Win” on a national scale.
The show has garnered invaluable support from community partners including Arbor Circle, Consumers Credit Union, GROW, SpringGR, Ten Media, and Studio Cor3. Their generous contributions have played a pivotal role in transforming Mathis’ vision into reality and providing a platform for women to showcase their entrepreneurial talents.
“Let’s Help Her Win” is a testament to the collaborative efforts of individuals, community partners, and sponsors who believe in the mission of supporting women in business. By offering the show for free on YouTube, Mathis aims to eliminate access barriers and inspire the next generation of women entrepreneurs. The team is eager to unveil their creation to the world and demonstrate their ongoing dedication to empowering women in business.
