The Advanced Entrepreneurship program for 2024 is currently accepting applications at the Agribusiness Center for Research and Entrepreneurship (ACRE) within the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. This presents a significant opportunity for agribusiness entrepreneurs in South Carolina. The application deadline is March 8, and interested parties are urged to apply promptly to avoid missing out.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of judges, vying for the chance to receive business mentoring and funding for their agribusiness endeavors. Those chosen could be granted up to $25,000 in support of their company or product, potentially making a substantial impact on their business initiatives.
Over the course of seven years, ACRE has allocated over $1 million in funding to 100 agricultural entrepreneurs, sponsored numerous industry-driven research projects, and hosted a variety of business workshops throughout the state. This program has proven to be a transformative force for many agribusiness entrepreneurs.
Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers remarked, “Each year, ACRE continues to uncover new entrepreneurial talent in South Carolina agribusiness, highlighting the state’s talent, determination, and foresight. I eagerly anticipate the emergence of a fresh cohort of competitive individuals in 2024.” This statement underscores the positive influence ACRE has had on South Carolina’s agribusiness sector.
Previous beneficiaries of ACRE funding include Crescent Farm, a female-owned vegetable grower in Laurens County, who utilized the funds to expand their production. Another successful recipient is Vital Mission Farm, a regenerative agriculture-based duck producer in Wadmalaw Island, and Milky Way Farm in Starr, which used the funding to purchase a second robotic milking system. Project Victory Gardens, assisting veterans in transitioning to agribusiness careers, also stands as a testament to ACRE’s funding and support success stories.
Applicants interested in the Advanced Entrepreneurship program are required to submit a business plan along with a ready-to-launch prototype or sales history for their company or product. It is crucial to note that businesses must be situated in South Carolina to be deemed eligible for this opportunity.
For those with exceptional agribusiness concepts but lack business experience, ACRE also offers a distinct program each fall for aspiring innovators. This initiative is tailored to support individuals with promising agribusiness ideas, providing the necessary guidance to commence their entrepreneurial journey.
For additional information and to submit an application, individuals are encouraged to visit the official ACRE website at acre-sc.com/programs or contact Kyle Player at 803-734-2324 or via email at [email protected]. Do not overlook this exceptional chance to elevate your agribusiness with ACRE’s backing.
