Phoebe Stonier, a 24-year-old brand and marketing associate at GrowUp Farms in Sandwich, Kent, is making a notable impact in the food and drink industry with her diverse range of responsibilities and her dedication to the company’s forward-thinking vision.
A graduate of event management from Canterbury Christ Church University, Stonier initially aspired to a career as a West End dancer, inspired by her mother’s profession as a dance teacher. However, her passion for food and the innovative vision of GrowUp Farms propelled her towards a career in the food and drink industry.
“I am extremely passionate about food! This was my initial inspiration for pursuing a career in the food and drink industry, and GrowUp Farms’ commitment to being an innovative and pioneering vertical farm resonated with me,” Stonier explains. “The team’s creation of a meticulously controlled indoor environment, using cutting-edge technology to cultivate the ideal Mediterranean spring climate year-round for growing salad leaves, will play a crucial role in supporting the UK’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in salad production and reduce our dependence on imported goods.”
Stonier’s role at GrowUp Farms encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including designing marketing materials and packaging, managing social media accounts, and coordinating internal events. She also plays a significant role in the development of the company’s two brands, Fresh Leaf Co and Unbeleafable, which are currently stocked in Iceland and Tesco.
In securing her position at GrowUp Farms, Stonier underwent a rigorous interview process, culminating in a challenging final stage where she presented strategies for successful product launches and marketing campaigns to founder Kate Hofman.
“Thankfully, it all paid off!” Stonier remarks.
In her view, the most rewarding aspect of working in the food and drink industry is the opportunity to contribute to a brand and concept in which she genuinely believes. She stresses that the prevalent misconception about the industry is the belief that success comes easily, when in fact, substantial effort is required to make a meaningful impact and stand out from the competition.
For aspiring young professionals seeking to enter the food and drink industry, Stonier advises gaining diverse experiences, cultivating professional networks, and sustaining their passion for the field. Her ultimate career aspiration is to become a brand manager.
Phoebe Stonier’s journey into the food and drink industry underscores the passion and diligence necessary to thrive in this dynamic and competitive sector. Through her unwavering dedication and innovative mindset, she is making a substantial impact at GrowUp Farms and shaping the future of food and drink in the UK.
