Empowering Women and Fostering Entrepreneurship: The Success Story of NAR-KOOP in Izmir, Turkey

The Narlıdere Producer Women’s Cooperative (NAR-KOOP) in Izmir, Turkey has been a driving force in the empowerment of local women and the promotion of entrepreneurship in the region. Furthermore, the cooperative has established sales outlets at various locations and also accepts bulk orders from citizens.

In addition to production, NAR-KOOP has played a crucial role in reintegrating women into the workforce through initiatives such as the Producer Women’s Market and Night Market. These platforms not only provide a marketplace for their products, but also foster confidence among the women, allowing them to interact, network, and learn from each other.

Mayor Ali Engin has emphasized the importance of women’s economic and social participation, highlighting the low employment rate of women in Turkey compared to EU and OECD countries. He has praised NAR-KOOP for its efforts in reversing this trend and promoting entrepreneurship among women, some of whom have even launched their own businesses.
