The recent State of the Nation Address (Sona) delivered by President Ramaphosa has left many feeling disappointed and disillusioned. The address, without the usual interruptions and antics of the opposing party, was lengthier than usual, filled with rhetoric, and devoid of any real solutions or vision for the future. Instead, an imaginative story about ‘Tintswalo’, a perfect world supposedly brought about by the government’s achievements, was presented.
Upon closer examination, it became clear that many of the referenced elements had little to do with the current administration and its promises of progress. In fact, the devastation caused by Covid-19, which was emphasised in the address, occurred almost four years ago. The reality is that despite years of promises, there has been little credible action to address the challenges facing our country.
With elections on the horizon, the political arena is already heating up with promises that are unlikely to be fulfilled. The truth is that no one is coming to save us or improve our tomorrow. We need to take charge of our own future and not rely on politicians to bring about meaningful change.
So, what can we do to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead? Firstly, we must envision the future we desire for ourselves, our families, and our businesses. This vision should be crystal clear and serve as a guiding light for our actions. Secondly, we need to develop a budget that supports this future, even if it means gradual and disciplined financial planning.
Additionally, acquiring the necessary skills to execute our vision is crucial. This may require continuous learning and self-improvement. Once equipped with the right skills, we can create a plan to keep us focused and resilient, even when faced with distractions or setbacks.
Furthermore, forming alliances with like-minded individuals, both professionally and socially, can strengthen our efforts towards achieving our desired future. The journey may be challenging, but self-reflection, perseverance, and hard work will ultimately lead us to success.
It is time to take ownership of our lives and businesses, to fall back in love with the incredible potential of our country, and to commit to the hard work required to realise our dreams. We have the power to shape our own destinies and build the future we desire. Let’s embrace this challenge and work together to create a better tomorrow.
