The Northeast Science and Technology (NEST) Center, situated in Kenilworth, is commencing its next phase of development with the goal of establishing itself as an international hub for life science and biotechnology. In 2023, Onyx Equities, as the managing member of NEST, acquired the property from Merck and has now formed a partnership with Outshine Properties to refurbish and lease the campus.
Spanning over 100 acres, the campus already includes 2 million square feet of facilities, housing state-of-the-art laboratories, office spaces, and opportunities for redevelopment. With a specific emphasis on attracting innovative companies, especially those engaged in advanced research such as cell and gene therapy, the NEST Center aims to create an environment that is conducive to meeting their unique requirements. Additionally, the campus provides robust utility infrastructure to support advanced data processing and storage capabilities, enabling organizations to leverage technology for their research and development endeavors.
The renovation plans will kick off with the 11 NEST pilot research and development plant, a 280,000-square-foot facility specifically designed to cater to the distinctive needs of life science companies, particularly those involved in biomanufacturing. This initiative underscores the commitment to fostering innovation and providing a platform for startups, educational research, and talent acquisition from regional colleges and universities.
Additionally, the NEST Center is poised to host its inaugural life science conference in collaboration with Bisnow, bringing together professionals in the industry for discussions and insights, ultimately cultivating a culture of innovation within the life sciences sector.
The strategic location of the NEST Center in Kenilworth makes it the ideal space for life science innovation in the tri-state area. Formerly the global headquarters of Merck, the campus is now under the leadership of Onyx Equities and Outshine Properties, driving the development of the Northeast region into a thriving hub of research and innovation in the United States.
