Argonne’s Success in Technology Transfer Recognised by Federal Laboratory Consortium

The esteemed Argonne National Laboratory, a division of the United States Department of Energy, has recently been lauded with two prestigious awards from the Federal Laboratory Consortium as a token of their outstanding dedication to technology transfer. One of these awards, Excellence in Technology Transfer, was granted to Principal Electrical Engineer Jason Harper, Senior Innovation and Commercialization Manager Hemant Bhimnathwala, Director of Commercialization Ilya Kats, and Senior Intellectual Property Attorney Mark Langguth in recognition of their instrumental contribution to a groundbreaking collaboration with electric vehicle charging company EVmatch. Their collective efforts led to the creation of a portable, universal adapter capable of retrofitting older electric vehicle chargers, enabling them to embrace “smart charging” technology. This innovation is poised to significantly improve the uptake of electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions, thereby fostering a more sustainable future for our planet.

Furthermore, Cecilia Gentle of Argonne was presented with the Rookie of the Year award for her exceptional contributions to technology transfer. Despite her relatively short tenure in the profession, Gentle has demonstrated remarkable competence and innovation in her role as the Innovation and Commercialization Manager. Noteworthy achievements include her pivotal role in licensing electronic waste processing technology to two materials recycling companies, as well as facilitating a five-party cooperative research and development agreement involving national labs, major corporations, and a technology startup company.
