A recent study conducted by Simplify LLC has named Texas as the best state for entrepreneurs in 2024. The study, which drew upon data from the Census Bureau, BEA, and Federation of Tax Administrators spanning from 2021 to 2023, examined six key factors in all 50 states and D.C. These factors encompassed corporate tax rate, inflation, migration of educated workers, new business formations, job creation, and consumer spending.
The Lone Star State secured the top ranking due to a combination of factors, including the absence of a corporate tax rate and a significant influx of educated workers. Texas witnessed a net gain of nearly 76,000 college-educated adults in 2022 and experienced a new business growth of 23.7% in the year ending November 2023. The study also identified Florida, Wyoming, Missouri, Delaware, South Dakota, Kansas, Washington, Utah, and Indiana as top states for entrepreneurs, with Louisiana ranking as the least favourable state.
Simplify LLC’s findings revealed a surge in entrepreneurship across the US, with a record 5.5 million entrepreneurs starting new businesses in 2023, as reported by the SBA. This marked the third consecutive year of historic numbers of Americans venturing into entrepreneurship. The trend was attributed to job losses, remote work becoming the norm, and a growing sense of independence.
The study also acknowledged the role of technology and artificial intelligence in enabling entrepreneurs to operate more efficiently and reduce overhead costs, potentially leading to the formation of more new businesses in the future.
Simplify LLC based its conclusions on the most recent federal data across six metrics, including job creation, consumer spending, inflation, business growth, corporate taxes, and migration patterns of educated workers. The full study can be accessed here.
