Outstanding Performance by CCISD Students in Regional Automotive Contest

A recent regional automotive competition at Bay College demonstrated the exceptional talent and skill of students from the Copper Country Intermediate School District (CCISD). The students claimed an impressive 80% of the awards, showcasing their hard work, dedication, and passion for automotive excellence.

One standout from the competition was Ty Crisman, a senior from Houghton and a second-year student, who achieved a commendable third place in the Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) category. His performance was tested through a challenging combination of a written assessment, a hands-on safety station, and a timed new vehicle inspection, requiring acute observance and precision. His accomplishment is a testament to his dedication and perseverance.

The Master Overall category saw further success for CCISD students, excelling in multiple timed hands-on practical stations encompassing various automotive tasks. Ethan Pelli, a senior from Calumet, secured third place in this rigorous category. Matthew Moyryla, a homeschooled second-year CTE student, earned second place, along with a £1,000 scholarship to Bay College. The top position in this category was claimed by Carter Worm, a junior from Calumet, who was awarded a £2,500 scholarship for his exceptional performance.

David Narhi, the CCISD CTE Automotive Instructor, expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements, attributing their success to their hard work, passion, and high-quality training. Looking ahead to the State competition in Grand Rapids in mid-April, Narhi expressed great confidence in the students and anticipated their continued success on a broader platform.

The talented CCISD students have qualified to advance to the State competition, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and represent their district among the best from across Michigan. This accomplishment is an affirmation of the district’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and vocational training, ensuring that students are well-prepared for successful careers and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
