Leveraging Technology to Boost Global Trade: A Look into TradeTech Forum 2024

The forthcoming TradeTech Forum, a significant component of the UAE’s TradeTech Global initiative, is poised to debut alongside the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) of the World Trade Organisation in Abu Dhabi on February 27, 2024. In collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), this event represents a crucial advancement in the integration of technology into international supply chains.

The primary objective of the TradeTech Global Initiative is to unlock trillions of dollars in additional global trade value. This will be accomplished through the utilization of state-of-the-art technologies such as blockchain, AI, the Internet of Things, and data analytics.

By serving as a platform to explore innovative ideas, the TradeTech Forum will showcase the latest advancements that are shaping the future of trade technology. It will delve into a wide range of themes including the enhancement of the TradeTech ecosystem, the digitalization of customs procedures, and the empowerment of small businesses engaged in trade finance, smart logistics, and technology for green trade.

The event will convene government officials, technology pioneers, and trade specialists to exchange knowledge and best practices. This forum will drive the adoption of more efficient, transparent, and accessible supply chains. In addition, a TradeTech fair will spotlight emerging trade tech companies. The event will also witness the launch of major initiatives that break new ground in TradeTech regulation and AI-driven sustainability in trade.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, underscored the potential of technology to positively impact every link in global supply chains, from automated customs checks to AI-directed inventory management systems. He also highlighted its ability to expand the reach of trade, enabling smaller nations and SMEs to participate in the global trading system equitably and securely.

Børge Brende, President of WEF, also stressed the need to revitalize trade by understanding and integrating new technologies. He expressed that MC13 and the TradeTech Forum provide an opportunity to accelerate technology deployment, drive a trade recovery, and overcome the challenges of ‘slowbalisation’.

The TradeTech Forum, in alignment with MC13, provides a platform for engagement with leading stakeholders from the public and private sectors. It will become an annual meeting, fostering collaboration and shaping the future of global trade through innovative TradeTech solutions.
