The Unbelievable Growth of 14-14-14 in its Second Year

A decade ago, Monique Walcott conceptualized the ambitious idea of organizing 14 weddings for 14 deserving couples on February 14, 2014. On that momentous day, 14 couples were able to realize their dream wedding. Fast forward to the present, Walcott and her team at MSW Events are elevating the event by planning a reiteration of the historic occasion on June 14.

During the launch event for this year’s 14-14-14, Walcott surprised the audience by announcing that the team will not only be organizing 14, but 24 weddings for 2024. Additionally, she revealed that the competition will now be open to Caribbean nationals residing in the US, the UK, and Canada. This decision aims to provide more individuals with the opportunity to experience the love and joy that Jamaica has to offer.

In the face of the audience’s astonishment, Walcott articulated that this year’s expansion symbolizes a grander manifestation of her passion for spreading love. Reflecting on the previous iteration of the event, Walcott conveyed, “Love is timeless and endless, which is why we are bringing it back. Love in all its forms should be celebrated. We want it to be authentic, timeless, and meaningful, devoid of clichés.”

While upholding the essence of the event, Walcott disclosed the names of the first two fortunate couples who have already won the all-expense-paid wedding. The couples, Janene Wright and Dwabenhe Gordon, as well as Stephanie Lyew and Delano Thomas, were announced in the presence of sponsors Petals and Promises and Hope Royal Botanical Gardens.

Declaring this year’s event as the best 14-14-14 ever, Walcott stated that it will set a new standard. She also emphasized Jamaica as the top destination for romance in the Caribbean, highlighting the country’s diversity and artistic flair. The event will showcase the island’s rich culture and the essence of love to the diaspora.

Prior to concluding the event, the brides-to-be were given a preview of what awaits them when they walk down the aisle in their Petals & Promises gowns during the mass wedding. Couples from the previous staging, the Lewises and the Baileys, shared their positive experiences and excitement for the upcoming event. Natassia Hall-Lewis, who got married at the same spot ten years ago, expressed her willingness to do it all over again.

The expansion of 14-14-14 to include more weddings and open up the competition to a wider audience reflects the growing impact and significance of the event. With the upcoming edition set to be the biggest and best so far, the celebration of love and unity is anticipated to leave a lasting impression on all participants.
