Ineos Automotive Introduces Innovative New 4X4 Vehicle: The Fusilier

INEOS Automotive has recently announced the addition of the INEOS Fusilier to its esteemed lineup of vehicles. Scheduled for release in May 2022, this 4X4 vehicle has been meticulously designed to offer superior off-road capability without compromising on-road performance. What distinguishes the Fusilier from its counterparts is its unique feature of providing both zero and low emission options, catering to a diverse range of consumer needs.

The official unveiling of the INEOS Fusilier took place in London, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Chairman of INEOS, presenting the new vehicle to the public. The company has confirmed the development of a low emission range-extender electric model, in addition to the previously announced all-electric powertrain, to ensure the Fusilier meets the varied requirements of its global consumer base. This alternative powertrain comprises a small petrol engine that operates a generator to maintain battery charge in the absence of external charging. Further details regarding this alternative powertrain, along with its launch timeline, are expected to be announced by autumn 2024.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe underscored the significance of integrating a mix of powertrain technologies to address the imperative need for decarbonisation whilst delivering vehicles that resonate with consumers. He highlighted the suitability of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for short trips and urban deliveries, but underscored the necessity for alternative technologies to expedite the pace of change. This rationale led to the decision to offer an additional powertrain for the Fusilier, one that significantly reduces emissions whilst providing the requisite range and refuelling capabilities.

The development of the INEOS Fusilier has been a collaborative effort with Magna, a prominent automotive supplier, who will also be responsible for manufacturing the vehicle at its facility in Graz, Austria. Building on the foundation of the Grenadier, the Fusilier will boast a more contemporary and distinctive design, with slightly reduced length and height. It will be constructed on a bespoke skateboard platform with a steel top hat and underbody, alongside aluminium doors and closures.

As part of the development process, the INEOS Fusilier will undergo a rigorous testing programme on Austria’s Schöckl mountain, in close proximity to Magna’s complete vehicle assembly facility in Graz. INEOS Automotive’s CEO, Lynn Calder views the introduction of the Fusilier as a significant milestone, underscoring the company’s unwavering commitment to long-term success in the automotive industry.

Further attesting to its dedication to sustainable practices, INEOS Automotive also unveiled a Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Demonstrator at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023. This innovative demonstrator showcases the potential for a hydrogen-powered 4X4 vehicle, whilst acknowledging the need for a robust refuelling infrastructure before commercial viability is actualised.

The introduction of the INEOS Fusilier heralds an exciting new chapter for INEOS Automotive, underscoring the brand’s dedication to innovation whilst addressing the demand for sustainable and high-performance vehicles in the global market. With its fusion of cutting-edge technology and environmentally friendly options, the Fusilier is poised to make a noteworthy impact in the automotive industry.
