Ineos Unveils New Addition to Vehicle Line-Up: The Fusilier

Ineos Automotive has officially unveiled the highly-anticipated smaller counterpart to the renowned Grenadier off-roader: the Fusilier. This new road-focused SUV boasts a selection of two powertrains, including a full electric version as well as a range-extender model.

The grand unveiling took place in London and was presided over by Ineos founder and chairman, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. It was revealed that in addition to the previously announced all-electric variant, the development of a range-extender model is currently in progress. This strategic move is aimed at ensuring that the Fusilier appeals to a wide range of global consumers while simultaneously advancing the company’s efforts towards decarbonisation.

While specific details are yet to be finalised, it has been disclosed that the range-extender version of the Fusilier will be equipped with a compact petrol engine that functions as a generator to maintain the battery’s charge level in situations where external charging may not be accessible. Additional information regarding the powertrain specifications and launch schedule is anticipated to be announced later this year.

Commenting on the introduction of the range-extender model, Ratcliffe stated, “As we developed this vehicle, we quickly concluded that in order to move towards decarbonisation but continue making cars that consumers want to drive, we need a mix of powertrain technologies. BEVs are perfect for certain uses: shorter trips and urban deliveries, but industry and governments need to have realistic expectations around other technologies that can help accelerate the necessary pace of change. That is the reason we are offering an additional powertrain for the Fusilier, one that dramatically reduces emissions but has the range and refuelling capabilities needed.”

In a departure from the Grenadier’s structure, the Fusilier will introduce a new custom ‘skateboard’ platform featuring a steel underbody, as well as aluminium doors and closures. Notably, Ineos has partnered with well-established automotive supplier, Magna, for the development of the Fusilier. The vehicle is set to be manufactured at Magna’s facility in Graz, Austria, and will be marginally smaller in length and height compared to its larger counterpart.

Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive, expressed, “Announcing our third model line is another significant milestone for Ineos Automotive, cementing our intent as an automotive manufacturer – like our full vehicle lineup, we are here for the long-haul.”

The rollout of the Fusilier marks an exciting new chapter for Ineos Automotive, demonstrating the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge vehicles that cater to the evolving needs and preferences of consumers. This latest addition is poised to expand the company’s presence in the automotive market, attracting a wider audience with its tailored powertrain options and modern design. Stay tuned for further updates as Ineos continues to make waves in the industry.
