On the 7th of March, 2024, Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, graced a ceremony to honour the winners of the 13th edition of the Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Award. The occasion also celebrated the inaugural graduates of the Orange Corners Jordan incubation programme initiated by The Netherlands.
The ceremony was attended by esteemed individuals including Ambassador of The Netherlands to Jordan Harry Verweij, Vice President of the Royal Scientific Society Rafat Assi, President of PSUT Wejdan Abu Elhaija, and Executive Director of the iPARK Business Incubator Omar Hamarneh, as well as representatives from government, innovation, and entrepreneurship sectors.
Princess Sumaya commenced her address by observing a minute of silence for the martyrs of Gaza and stressed the importance of leadership and innovation in the reconstruction efforts post-war. She emphasized the significance of cross-border collaboration and partnership in finding solutions for the region and reiterated that Jordan possesses abundant entrepreneurial talent. She affirmed that competitions like the Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Award greatly contribute to the strengthening and empowerment of these talents.
The Princess highlighted the role of the Queen Rania Centre for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) in supporting and empowering entrepreneurial talent. She emphasized the centre’s objective of nurturing entrepreneurship and its distinctive Jordanian initiative, characterized by a regional and global outlook. Princess Sumaya also acknowledged the valuable support of the Orange Corners programme, implemented in 22 countries, in assisting young entrepreneurs in their economic pursuits.
In his remarks, Ambassador Verweij expressed gratitude for the support of Jordanian private companies in Orange Corners. He congratulated the winners of the Award and the Orange Corners graduates, underscoring the Netherlands’ unwavering commitment to empowering innovative entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth in Jordan.
The Orange Corners Jordan incubation programme aims to support young Jordanian entrepreneurs who have progressed beyond the idea stage. More than 600 teams registered for the award, with 120 teams qualifying for training and 40 teams eventually qualifying for incubation with Orange Corners Jordan.
During the ceremony, Princess Sumaya honoured the winners of the Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Award and the iPARK incubation award supported by AstraZeneca. The recipients included Techcare, Planalyz, Farm Jo, Shipdip, and Tourstify.
Princess Sumaya’s presence and support for the budding entrepreneurs showcased her commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Jordan. Her influential address, coupled with the recognition of the award winners, underscored the importance of empowering young talent for a brighter economic future in the country.
