The Role of Anchor Borrowers Scheme in Ogun State’s Agricultural Empowerment

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun recently disclosed that the Anchor Borrowers Scheme in the state has played a pivotal role in empowering more than 40,000 agriculture entrepreneurs. Addressing the attendees at the 37th Lisabi Day celebration in Abeokuta, the governor underscored the significance of providing support to young farmers and investors regarding land preparation and mechanisation for agriculture.

During the event, which he was represented by his deputy, Engr. Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun expressed his administration’s dedication to empowering youths for agricultural growth. He also emphasized the crucial role of agriculture in the state’s economic development, particularly in terms of food security, job creation, and industrialisation.

The theme of the celebration, “Encouraging Youth Entrepreneurship in Agric Business: Panacea for Solving Youth Unemployment in Egbaland”, aligns with the governor’s vision for the agricultural sector and youth development. Ogun State has a strong position in cassava production, poultry farming, fish production, and animal husbandry, making it a major global player in the agricultural industry.

In conjunction with the celebration, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, announced plans to empower Egba indigenes through Lisabi palliatives and educational support for students. The efforts of the governor in establishing a modern Adire market at Asero were also commended, with the encouragement for youths to explore Adire-making and selling, while preserving the agricultural legacy of Egbaland.

The festival also served as a platform for retired Navy Captain Rasheed Raji to emphasize the importance of shifting youths’ focus from white-collar jobs to sustainable occupations like agriculture. He called for the support of Governor Abiodun in helping youths achieve self-sustaining agricultural businesses through the state’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the event included the paying of homage to the Alake of Egbaland by various groups, highlighting the significance and reverence for the celebration.

The role of agriculture in empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs is of utmost importance, and the efforts of Governor Abiodun in this regard are commendable. The state’s commitment to supporting young farmers and investors showcases a promising future for agricultural growth and youth development.

In conclusion, the Anchor Borrowers Scheme in Ogun State has undeniably contributed to the empowerment of over 40,000 agriculture entrepreneurs. With continued support and investment, the state is well on its way to furthering its position as a leader in agricultural production and youth development.
