Detroit’s People Mover undergoes temporary closure for technology improvements

The Detroit People Mover, a widely used means of transportation in Downtown Detroit, was temporarily suspended on Monday. The closure was deemed necessary to facilitate crucial maintenance work on the guideway, as announced by officials on Sunday.
Throughout this period, the elevated transportation system that offers a convenient loop around the city was non-operational. The maintenance work, carried out in anticipation of the upcoming NFL Draft, encompassed technological enhancements and other improvements intended to elevate the overall experience for People Mover passengers.
Upon completion of the scheduled maintenance and enhancements, the People Mover is scheduled to recommence its regular operations at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, delivering the high-quality service that commuters and visitors have grown accustomed to.
The city of Detroit has placed significant emphasis on effecting necessary improvements to its infrastructure and public amenities in preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft. Through the allocation of millions of dollars to various projects, including the enhancement of sidewalks, roadways, lighting, and more, the city is committed to enhancing the urban landscape for the prestigious event.
The 89th annual NFL Draft, slated to occur at the end of April, is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Detroit. Festivities are set to kick off at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza on Thursday, April 25, and will continue through Saturday, April 27.
The temporary suspension of the People Mover, while inconvenient for some, underscores the city’s dedication to ensuring that the transportation system is in optimal condition to accommodate the expected influx of visitors during the NFL Draft.
